Hawthorn Families,

We want to remind you that we will be sending out by Tuesday morning what learning will look like during this state school dismissal. We recommend that you wait to come to the school to pick up any books or personal items your student(s) may need. We will be sending a schedule of when students may come to stagger the number in the schools at the same time.

Please be aware that Hawthorn Academy will NOT be able to offer any kind of childcare during school dismissal.

Our teachers were working Friday on preparation of materials for your student(s). Starting Tuesday, students will have an online option or paper-based learning options available for families to pick up on Tuesday. Stay posted for more information.

We recommend that students wait until Tuesday to retrieve books and personal items. At that time students, following the schedule that will be sent on Tuesday, can pick up paper-based learning options if needed. This will limit the number of trips you need to make.

As per the state recommendations, we will send a schedule for students to come to the school so as to limit the number in the school at the same time to small groups. Please do not come if you or anyone in your household is showing signs of illness. We will also ask you to limit your contact to the recommended six-feet distance between people while at our school.

On Tuesday, we will also disseminate how to order and pick up a 'Grab and Go' lunch each day if you decide to get one.

We appreciate your patience and support as we move through this process.

Effective until March 27, 2020

Parents and guardians,

The Utah Department of Health, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Governor's Coronavirus Task Force and the Utah State Board of Education have been actively monitoring the outbreak of COVID-19 and coordinating efforts involving preparedness and prevention with school leaders throughout the state.

This afternoon, the Utah State Board of Education and Utah Department of Health have directed all schools in the state to dismiss school from Monday, March 16th through Friday, March 27th. Prior to re-opening our school, we will work closely with these state agencies to re-evaluate the situation and determine the appropriate next steps.

During this dismissal period, students will remain at home, but the school facility will be kept open and staff will be allowed to continue to work. In addition, small groups of students may be invited to the school under limited circumstances to provide services or support that are needed. We will contact you by Tuesday, at the latest, with additional information on the educational resources and support that will be provided to your student(s) during this dismissal.

As you are aware, the health and safety of our students and faculty is our top priority. We recognize the burden this will place on many of our families, but we encourage you to continue to follow the recommendations and protocols established by state and federal health agencies. Additional information on COVID-19 can be accessed at:,, and

We are grateful for the network of support that has been provided by our state and local leaders. In addition, we are so thankful for the dedication of our faculty, and the outpouring of support we have received from families. We will continue to provide you with updates as they become available.
